ABOUT UNNATURAL FAUNA CLUB

An archive of questionable natural history.

Unnatural Fauna Club is an independent apparel project documenting wildlife as it has almost certainly never behaved.

Here, giant squid work the morning shift. Hermit crabs take measurements. Octopuses perform routine maintenance on apex predators. Elsewhere, real organisms and behaviors prove that nature rarely needs our help becoming strange.

Each specimen begins with an animal, a behavior, or an unusual piece of natural history. From there, it is illustrated, classified, numbered, and entered into the archive.

THE ARCHIVE

The collection is organized around three forms of observation.

UNNATURAL BEHAVIOR
Impossible animal behavior, documented without comment. Familiar occupations, rituals, and situations are reconstructed with the seriousness of a field observation.

NATURAL CURIOSITIES
Real organisms, adaptations, and biological phenomena that already seem improbable enough.

FIELD OBSERVATIONS
Real animal behavior bearing suspicious resemblance to our own — cooperation, competition, maintenance, organization, and other evidence from the field.

Together, they form an expanding record of the odd, the overlooked, and the biologically questionable.

THE SPECIMENS

Every design is treated as an individual specimen.

Each receives a permanent FIG. number, a title, and its own archival classification. Specimens are then grouped into Field Archives according to habitat, subject, or area of observation.

The numbering continues as the archive grows. New discoveries do not replace the old ones.

They simply make the records more difficult to explain.

THE OBJECTS

The illustrations are created for apparel rather than placed onto it as an afterthought.

We favor substantial, garment-dyed cotton, relaxed silhouettes, and artwork with the texture and character of an old natural-history plate interpreted through a stranger lens.

Every piece is made to order, allowing the archive to grow deliberately without producing unnecessary inventory.

FIELD ARCHIVE No. 001

MARINE OBSERVATIONS

The first expedition begins below the surface.

Cephalopods, deep-sea organisms, symbiotic arrangements, unusual occupations, and other incidents of questionable marine conduct have been gathered into the inaugural Field Archive.

Further habitats will be documented as conditions permit.

The archive remains open.
