THE GOLDEN HOUR — SOFTSTYLE TEE

During an evening survey of open coastal waters, a humpback whale was observed emerging almost entirely above the ocean's surface.

The event occurred shortly before sunset.

The specimen rose at a steep angle, extending one unusually long pectoral fin outward while displacing a considerable volume of water.

For a brief interval, its silhouette was visible against the descending sun.

The movement was consistent with breaching behavior, in which whales propel part or nearly all of their bodies above the water. The precise purpose of individual breaches remains difficult to establish, although communication, social interaction, and parasite removal have been proposed as possible functions.

The specimen briefly interrupted the horizon.

No further breaches were recorded during the observation period.

The surrounding water gradually returned to its previous condition, leaving no visible indication of the event beyond the fading disturbance at the surface.
