During a routine examination of cephalopod behavior, a common octopus was discovered consulting an illustrated reference volume containing information on various marine organisms.

The specimen appeared particularly interested in the section concerning jellyfish.

Several arms remained positioned around the open book, while others were apparently available for additional research activities.

No external instruction had been provided.

The octopus demonstrated an unusual familiarity with marine terminology and showed little interest in subjects unrelated to ocean life.

The specimen demonstrated an unusual interest in marine literature.

Attempts to establish the extent of its knowledge were unsuccessful. The specimen continued reading and declined to participate in further questioning.
